Scherman-Hoffman Sanctuaries New Jersey Audubon's twin sanctuaries in Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, and Harding Township, NJ. On the grounds are a series of well-maintained and marked trails ranging in length from .3 miles to 1.3 miles, on which you can walk through upland deciduous forest, fields, woodland and the floodplain along the headwaters of the Passaic River. The Sanctuary is home for more than 60 species of nesting birds, and over 175 species have been recorded including as many as 25 species of warblers during Spring migration (10 nesting warbler including worm-eating and cerulean), pileated woodpecker, wild turkey , and great-horned and screech owls.
