Spring is finally here but it wasn’t long ago when the winter season’s last blizzard collided with our Silver Oak Wine Dinner. We thank those who braved the near-whiteout conditions—determined to attend--and enjoyed the delightful wines and company of special guest, winemaker Daniel Baron. Daniel was very entertaining while delivering a wide array of information about the Silver Oak Cellars. A few facts discussed that may interest you: Daniel Baron has been with Silver Oak Cellars for 17 years, and previously had been with Dominus for 12 years. “Do you cook at home?”  “Not on my days off.” One of the most frequent questions I am asked when people find out I am a chef is, “Do you cook at home?”  The answer is no.  Yes, I am the designated cook on holidays I spend with my family (mainly Christmas day), but on my days off, cooking at home doesn’t even enter my mind.  I enjoy ordering out, usually a good slice of pizza.  I also enjoy going out to a new restaurant to see what is being served.  My favorite place to eat is a little sushi restaurant, in Somerville, called Shumi.  Shumi is tucked away in a ...

My recent obsession with charcuterie has turned into a deep passion for sausage making.  Growing up, I always loved cured meats such as pepperoni, sopressata and salami.  I have discovered that I can now make these delicious sausages and the reward of tasting the finished product is unmatched.  The great thing about being a chef is that I can share this reward with all that are interested.  Available on our bar menu is our house-made charcuterie plate.  This plate is my pride and joy.  It has different styles of sausages as well as a prosciutto. Charcuterie Plate...

Recently, Charles Roy from Roy Estate passed away unexpectedly. Charles was such an inspiration to everyone he met with his positive attitude, boundless energy and great enthusiasm. I met Charles a few years back, and was elated to try his first vintage of Roy Estate Cabernet and Roy Estate Red Proprietary Blend. The wines were incredible--showing such elegance, charm, and finesse to mimic the personality of such an incredible man as Charles. I couldn’t wait to place these wines on our wine list and tell our clientele the story of how Charles was from NJ, then moved to Napa Valley after purch...

Charlotte and Christiane Charlotte and Christiane Krimmel are very special to me and all of us at The Bernards Inn. The entire Krimmel Family are great supporters of the Inn, and sisters Charlotte and Christiane always choose to celebrate their special occasions with us. There have been many memorable birthdays, recitals, anniversaries,  celebrations, etc.  Both girls have an avid interest in the makings and running of a restaurant and are fascinated with the operations at the Bernards Inn.  They love cooking, baking, and the overall experience of dining. We'd like to think that we have inspi...
