“I’m getting engaged and I need help!”    I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the privilege of helping a young man come up with just the right scenario in which to propose. It is truly an honor to be part of the planning of this very intimate moment, and the romantic setting of The Bernards Inn has made it the choice for countless proposals over its 100-year history. Everyone has a story about that moment and it’s one that is repeated over and over for many years to come.  Now that’s pressure! A grilled cheese sandwich is one of my all-time lunch favorites. I created this grilled cheese and asparagus sandwich for our new spring lunch menu. It utilizes the abundance of asparagus and baby arugula at this time of year. The tanginess of the brie and the depth of the grain mustard pull it all together to create a fantastic flavor combination. Enjoy! Opus One has earned a sterling reputation for being one of the best wines in the world, and it certainly is one of my favorites. I’ve tasted and served the wine to delighted guests at The Bernards Inn for several years now, but it was my visit to the winery itself in the Napa Valley that revealed how a wine of such superb quality is produced—with passion, knowledge and utmost care. It was a bright and crystal clear afternoon on the day of our visit to Opus One. The setting was so spectacular as we approached the winery and  it took my breath away. When you arrive, you immediately get the fee...

If April is the “cruelest month,” then what would T.S. Eliot have to say about March? This is the time of year when we all yearn for warmer weather and the promise of spring. Overcome by cabin fever, we need to get out of the house.  As The Bernards Inn’s resident “Escape Artist,” I say, turn to the arts! Why not beat the Winter Blues by visiting some of the great local galleries and museums right here in Bernardsville—you’ve  gone out and  your escape is weather proof!   Start out on March 4th from  with an evening enjoying The BernARTsville Art Walk from 6 – 9 ...
