The Hampton Classic

JennaMy two daughters are “horse people” and compete in many shows throughout the year, around the east coast.  I try and attend as many shows as possible but sometimes, it is logistically impossible.  This past weekend I attended the Hampton Classic in East Hampton, NY and when I say that this was the most impressive show I have ever been to, it is a huge understatement.

HorseWe rented a gorgeous house for the week with five other families from our barn and had a great time.  I have not been out to the Hampton’s for years and had forgotten how many farms were nestled in between the immense mansions.  We tasted wines from a few of the local wineries and ate at a few of the crowded cafes in town.  The traffic put the Jersey Shore to shame!  A five minute drive would take twenty minutes but the surroundings were so lovely, I didn’t mind the delays.

The show ran throughout the week but the big event was the $250,000 Classic which was held on Sunday.  What an event!  All of the beautiful people were there, dressed to the nines.  I sat one table away from Lou Dobbs who was sitting with Robert Duval.  Bruce Springstein was around with wife Patti as was Mayor Bloomberg and Matt Lauer.  Everyone sat around the grass course and followed the forty or so riders.  The course had five foot jumps and out of the forty riders, only two made it through clean.

A dazzling event and a wonderful five days…
