Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. There is no pressure to choose a proper gift or get dressed up and religion plays no part in it. All you have to do is eat! What can be better? Growing up in my family, the meal would go on for four hours with patched together tables extending out of the dining room and into the kitchen.
Getting involved at the Bernards Inn has brought a new meaning to Thanksgiving. First of all, you work that day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You get to see families gathering here to dine and continue a tradition while enjoying each others company. I also get to see a group of dedicated individuals, working hard to make it a memorable day for our guests. Imagine cooking for close to 500 people! It is crazy! I love walking through the kitchen and seeing a dozen people cutting vegetables, baking breads, preparing the turkeys and meats. The smells alert my senses to the upcoming feast. When the big day arrives, most of the staff is on their feet for close to twelve hours. Even though every one is working, we are together as one big family. And that is a good thing.
Although it has been a poor economy and everyone hit some rough spots this year, I am very thankful for the group of dedicated people that surround me here.
