Discover the Arts and Beat the Winter Blues

If April is the “cruelest month,” then what would T.S. Eliot have to say about March? This is the time of year when we all yearn for warmer weather and the promise of spring. Overcome by cabin fever, we need to get out of the house.  As The Bernards Inn’s resident “Escape Artist,” I say, turn to the arts!

Why not beat the Winter Blues by visiting some of the great local galleries and museums right here in Bernardsville—you’ve  gone out and  your escape is weather proof!   Start out on March 4th from  with an evening enjoying The BernARTsville Art Walk from 6 – 9 p.m.. Stop in at Studio 7 Art Gallery  for an Artist’s Reception with Albert L. Bross Jr. then move on to Design Domaine featuring works from the Pastel Arts Society ( you can meet the artists there as well from 7 – 9 p.m.),. Cross the street to Wallflowers Gallery where Landscape artist Karen Matte’s work is featured for the entire  month of March.

The JM Stringer Gallery of Fine Art on Claremont Road is  Is featuring the recent paintings of John Phillip Osborne in March.   You have an opportunity to meet the Artist Saturday March 5th from 10 am – 6 pm or Sunday March 6th from 12 pm – 5pm.  You may want to try our Gallery Gourmet  for Art Lover’s Package in conjunction with Stringer can enjoy a private tour by the gallery owners, followed by a spectacular dinner and an overnight stay at the Inn….now that is a total escape!

If you want to move from viewing to doing, The Center for Contemporary Art on Burnt Mills Road is offering two classes beginning March 8th – It’s Easy Painting Green ( how timely!) and Color Theory.

Morris Museum and The Bickford Theater offer an array of exhibits, workshops and musical programs for adults and families. On March 7th ,  the 18 piece Jazz Lobsters swing band will perform for only $20.00, which includes a complimentary wine and cheese spread at 6:30 just prior to the Concert. The March 9 – May 2nd exhibit by the award-winning New Jersey artist Lynn Vergano. The exhibition is entitled “Beauty in the Brushstroke: Chinese Brush Painting”.   The whole family can enjoy Classic Cartoons Saturday March 5th at 12:30 p.m..

And last but not least, if you are looking for a true Epicurean Overnight Getaway why not “check out” the Opus One Wine Dinner on March 30th at The Bernards Inn. Wine and food Lovers can “check- in” and delight in a spectacular wine dinner complete with a presentation by acclaimed Opus winemaker Michael Silacci.
