Recently I had the pleasure of hosting a luncheon with a small group of people from the trade with Dennis Cakebread as our special guest.
We tasted through the lineup of the new release vintage of Cakebread wines including: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay Napa, Chardonnay Reserve Carneros, Merlot, Cabernet, and Pinot Noir. All the wines showed incredibly well as they were paired with the Chef’s creation of food. A few details that Dennis brought to our attention were: They started making Cabernet in 1974, and in 1973 Cakebread was the most active winery in Napa Valley. They do all night harvesting of the grapes which keeps the grapes cooler retaining higher natural acids.
The Pinot Noir is one of the newest additions to the Cakebread line-up which is from Anderson Valley. They (Cakebread) own 65 acres in the Anderson Valley where they planted 6 different clones of Pinot Noir. Dennis believes the wine is about “where you grow it, and how you grow it.”
We are happy to announce the addition of Cakebread Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley 2006 to our wine list. Also, if anyone would have an interest to purchase any of the Cakebread wines retail, we would be happy to accommodate your needs. It was a pleasure visiting with Dennis again, and we look forward to his return.
