I want to tell you about one of the finest culinary evenings I have ever had in my life. My wife and I dined at Per Se this past Saturday night for our anniversary and we are still glowing over our amazing experience. From the moment we walked into this world renowned restaurant, we were treated like royalty. We were seated in the upper tier of tables and looked out at a spectacular view of Columbus Circle and a corner of Central Park. On our table was a hand written card from Thomas Keller wishing us a Happy Anniversary. I was already blown away!
The Chef had put together a nine course tasting menu that stimulated every one of our senses. The aromas, the tastes, the presentations, the feel, and even the sounds were masterful. And, with each course, came a detailed description from our extremely knowledgeable servers. It was like a Broadway show that lasted for three hours.
There was one last surprise waiting for us when the table was cleared. Knowing that we were involved at The Bernards Inn, we were invited for a tour of the kitchen! We couldn’t get through the door fast enough. The room was easily twice the size of our kitchen and completely finished in a brilliant white tile. It was like being in heaven.
As we were escorted to the exit, we were handed a box of mignardises and I couldn’t help but hug a few of our chaparones. My wife and I still have a satisfied smile on our faces, three days later.
