1983...It Was A Very Good (Vintage) Year

Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, engagement or even a wedding, toasting the occasion with a special bottle of wine or champagne can add a thoughtful, memorable touch.

Several years ago, I asked our own Terri Baldwin, sommelier and wine director, to research and help me find a special 1983 Taittinger Champagne that we bought and held for a number of years here at the Inn. Why that vintage? It was the birth year of my son and I knew that someday I would want to have a special bottle of Champagne to open and enjoy with him on his wedding day.

That milestone is just around the corner. The wedding is this weekend in California, so we marked the occasion with a wonderful family dinner here at the Inn and opened this amazing bottle. It was a beautiful caramel color and tasted like heaven! I shared tastes with some of our customers who were also dining that evening and they were so happy for our family.

Terri enjoys the “hunt” to track down special bottles, and often does so for our customers’ special occasions. You may want to do as I did and ask Terri for assistance. The love, joy and sheer pleasure of marking a special moment in time will be a memory you cherish forever.

DIane - Congratulations on your sons wedding! 29 year old champagne must have been terrific.
