Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday.  There is no pressure to choose a proper gift or get dressed up and religion plays no part in it.  All you have to do is eat!  What can be better?  Growing up in my family, the meal would go on for four hours with patched together tables extending out of the dining room and into the kitchen. Getting involved at the Bernards Inn has brought a new meaning to Thanksgiving.  First of all, you work that day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. ...

Design and Technology Advice From the Inn’s Interior Designer Recently while sitting at the Inn’s Library Bar, a guest asked me if something had changed in the room – he shared with me that it felt even more warm and inviting than he remembered. “Yes,” I quickly responded – “we’ve added a large screen TV to the room” – No a large screen doesn’t add to a room – but a beautifully detailed bookshelf with aged books does.  Here’s a design tip that I would like to pass along – when you have to have “technology stuff” in a room, think about how it can become an added plus or feature.  My ...

I have been an avid Yankee fan as long as I can remember.  My Dad used to take us to games at the old Yankee Stadium a few times a year and it was always so special.  The hot dogs, the peanuts, the crazy fans, are etched in my mind. The only problem was that the Yankee teams from the mid 60's to the mid 70's were terrible! As the summer evenings come to an end and the crisp autumn wind rolls in, it is hard to believe that we are entering the fourth autumn season since redesigning the Inn. My involvement with the Inn began as a patron more than two decades ago and what a pleasure it is has been to become the exclusive interior designer for the Inn. As President of Butlers of Far Hills, the Annex at Butlers of Far Hills, and the J. Butler Collection in Nantucket, MA, my involvement at the Inn has provided an opportunity to fuse my interests in design, entertaining and overall style. While designing for a venue of ...

On Tuesday, September 29th,  we had the honor and pleasure to have George Eberhardt join us for lunch. Mr. Eberhardt is quite a character,  joking and kidding staff members from the time he walked in the door. George enjoyed one of his favorites, lobster bisque, as well as lobster pot pie and coffee ice cream. We all had a wonderful time and George promised to return next year for another lunch. One more thing I forgot to mention, George was celebrating his 105th birthday. Happy Birthday, George.
