It was such an honor to participate in our recent event at the James Beard House in New York City. Chef Heyer created the summer New Jersey fresh ingredients menu, and I was happy to pair the wines. Sommelier Terri Baldwin and Chef Corey Heyer pictured in the famous kitchen at the James Beard House. My last blog explained all the food and the wine, but I wanted to share a few pictures from the evening itself. One of the best restaurant critics of food, wine and service of all time was there to support us, my friend Valerie Sinclair. It’s so much fun to talk the biz with those who are...

If your schedule allows you some free time in August, please join us at the legendary James Beard House in NYC on August 9 for a dinner you will not soon forget. The Bernards Inn will be hosting a “Garden State Bounty” dinner with the menu designed by our chef Corey Heyer with wines to accompany the dishes that I have chosen myself. The menu will feature local coastal seafood and fresh summer garden ingredients. The mission of the James Beard House is to provide a culinary showcase which supports the James Beard Foundation’s mission of celebrating, preserving, and nurturing America’s diverse ...

Pio Cesare Wines Our recent Italian wine dinner featuring the wines of Pio Cesare was a great success. We had two wonderful speakers, Sergio Zecca and Charles Ferrara, who both represent Maisons Marques & Domaines. All the wines served were red, with the exception of one white which I thought was fabulous, the Cortese di Gavi 2011. The beauty of this wine is stainless tanks which help the wine exhibit beautiful fresh fruit with clean, crisp, and aromatic flavors that lead to nice weight on the palate. I like to characterize the wines I drink as light weight, medium weight, and hea...

We are looking forward to hosting a wine dinner on June 12th featuring the spectacular wines of Pio Cesare. Located in Piedmont, Italy, the family-owned winery has been producing fine wines since 1881. Production at Pio Cesare is limited to using only the most mature and healthy grapes. Under Pio Boffa’s stewardship, the wines of Pio Cesare have become famous throughout the world. Pio is one of Barolo’s most important ambassadors abroad and one of the purest expressions of an exceptional territory, the Nebbiolo-based region. Come join us for this very special five-course dinner paired wi...

We had a wonderful evening enjoying some A.S. Kiken (literally as* kicking) wines from Reverie Winery at our recent wine dinner. Starting the evening with the Reverie Roussanne 2010 introduced our guests to a varietal they may not have been familiar with. This Roussanne was fresh, vibrant, aromatic and full of fresh fruit flavors. A great way to wake up the taste buds! The Roussanne grape is indigenous to Southern France and is one of the whites that is used for blending into the Chateauneuf du Papes. We enjoyed an interesting red named A. S. Kiken nicknamed for the son, Andrew. S. Kiken, ha...
