Recently, Charles Roy from Roy Estate passed away unexpectedly. Charles was such an inspiration to everyone he met with his positive attitude, boundless energy and great enthusiasm. I met Charles a few years back, and was elated to try his first vintage of Roy Estate Cabernet and Roy Estate Red Proprietary Blend. The wines were incredible--showing such elegance, charm, and finesse to mimic the personality of such an incredible man as Charles. I couldn’t wait to place these wines on our wine list and tell our clientele the story of how Charles was from NJ, then moved to Napa Valley after purch...

Charlotte and Christiane Charlotte and Christiane Krimmel are very special to me and all of us at The Bernards Inn. The entire Krimmel Family are great supporters of the Inn, and sisters Charlotte and Christiane always choose to celebrate their special occasions with us. There have been many memorable birthdays, recitals, anniversaries,  celebrations, etc.  Both girls have an avid interest in the makings and running of a restaurant and are fascinated with the operations at the Bernards Inn.  They love cooking, baking, and the overall experience of dining. We'd like to think that we have inspi...

Stephan Pauly Bergweiler & Terri at BI On Monday, January 18th 2010 we hosted a wine luncheon with Stephan Pauly from Dr. Pauly Bergweiler wine estate in Germany.  Stephan's last name is Pauly, but Pauly in Germany is in comparison to the household name of Smith in the United States. To identify themselves, they added the name Bergweiler to the wine estate name. The wines here are all hand crafted from 15 different single vineyard sites. Everything is picked by hand due to the fact of steep slopes that are comprised of slate soil which makes it difficult for the pickers to keep their foot...

Recently, David Ramey, proprietor/winemaker at Ramey Cellars visited with us here at the Bernards Inn. David is quite a character, interesting, entertaining, down to earth, and extremely intelligent. He is the type of guy you just want to hang out with to hear all the interesting stories he has to tell. We pour his Ramey Russian River Chardonnay by the glass, and without a doubt, a most popular Chardonnay that is Burgundian in style. David sources his fruit from all high end single vineyards of: Rocholi, Dutton Ranches, Charles Heintz, and Green Pastures Vineyards. Gravelly soils provide a cri...

Fabulous sweet  RED dessert wine: Toucan Wines “Estate Toucanet”, Arroyo Grande Valley This wine is made from a blend of grapes from the 2007 vintage and grapes from 2008 late harvest vintage. These grapes have been fortified with brandy spirits distilled from the 2006 Zinfandel Vintage. Consequently, this is a blend of three different barrels from 3 different vintages from the estate vineyard of Toucan, made in the style of Port using Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. This was aged in oak for up to 22 months. That’s the technical side of it, now the beauty of this unique sweet dessert wine is the...
