 Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, engagement or even a wedding, toasting the occasion with a special bottle of wine or champagne can add a thoughtful, memorable touch. Several years ago, I asked our own Terri Baldwin, sommelier and wine director, to research and help me find a special 1983 Taittinger Champagne that we bought and held for a number of years here at the Inn. Why that vintage? It was the birth year of my son and I knew that someday I would want to have a special bottle of Champagne to open and enjoy with him on his wedding day. Their meeting was destiny. Caesar Mistretta, Jr.  and Martha Rooney met at a Bernardsville Chamber of Commerce gathering. Caesar, the son of J.M. Stringer Gallery owner, Caesar Mistretta, Sr. and Martha, the daughter of Mastro Shoes owner Peter Rooney, began their romance shortly thereafter which led up to their engagement at The Bernards Inn and eventually their wedding day here on July 2, 2011.  Martha’s engagement and wedding rings were handcrafted by Mitchell-Peck fine jewelers of Bernardsville.
