A few weeks ago I was working on cleaning out the apartment of my aunt who had recently passed away. She was 88 on her last birthday and for many years lived alone. Like many people of her generation my aunt was a “saver.” In the process of organizing everything I came across a copy of Woman’s Day magazine that she had saved from April 1939. The cover price was two cents. The magazine was in almost mint condition. The pages had yellowed, but otherwise it was perfect. I don’t know her reason for keeping this particular issue, because there were no other copies of the magazine to be found in he...

On Friday, August 28th we had the pleasure of hosting the wedding reception for Brooke Rogers and Tucker Kelley here at the Inn. A number of family members were staying in-house that night including Emily Kelley, the groom’s mother. She arrived around midday to check in and I escorted her up to her room. We had a delightful conversation going up the stairs during which time she told me that her now 85-year old mother had spent her wedding night at the Inn many years ago before going to Atlantic City for a one-night honeymoon. Mrs. Kelley’s comments immediately took me back to two years ago whe...

Last Sunday, my wife Tiina and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary. It was a great day in a lot of respects. Probably most significant is that we made it this far without one of us strangling the other. I guess that’s the sign of a successful marriage. The weather was just as beautiful as it was on the day we were married—blue skies, bright sunshine and a cool breeze. In the morning we opened the cards we had gotten for each other.
